We will help you every step of the way!
Step 1: Submit a request to record a story.
You will be contacted by a story coordinator.
Step 2: Prepare your story:
- Format Options:
- Interview Format
- Bring a person with you to act as an interviewer
- Ask a library facilitator to act as an interviewer
- Narration Format
- Story telling style
- Documentary style
- Interview Format
- Content:
- A Sacramento related story—For example, growing up in Sacramento; a place or person with special meaning to you; the story of an organization in Sacramento; the history of a particular group in Sacramento; first impressions upon moving to Sacramento; life before, during, and/or after a historical event in Sacramento. The stories are 3-5 minutes in length.
- Think about the questions you would like to ask in an interview.
- Consider the message you want to convey in your story.
- Jot down your questions or story ideas.
- Photos, music, video clips, and other documents will enhance your story.
- A coordinator can assist you with preparation of your story.
- Please Note:
- You will need to sign a release form allowing your story to be viewed from the Sacramento Public Library web site.
Step 3: Record your story:
When your story is ready, your coordinator will schedule your session.

- A previously arranged location of your choice
- Duration:
- 90 minute recording session
