The Ephemera Collection

By definition, ephemera is printed to last only a short time. The Ephemera Collection consists of advertising circulars, bills and invoices, menus, bookmarks, and more. Some pieces are colorful and eye-catching. Other items are of interest for their content—an invoice from 1855 (below) shows the cost of carriage and buggy rentals.

Advertising "fluff" has always been popular. Hart's Cafeteria, proclaiming 10,000 meals served daily, displays a picture of the frieze at one of their locations and talks about the percentage of butterfat in the milk they serve.
